Sun Metro Unveils New Bus Wrap

El PASO, Texas – Sun Metro unveils a newly Streetcar bus design this Saturday, December 2, during the Celebration of Lights Parade. The bus will be on display in front of the Plaza Theater and remain there until the end of the Winterfest festivities. The bus will be fully wrapped in a Presidents’ Conference Committee (PCC) streetcar design previously used in El Paso during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

Visitors can board the bus and learn about the history and key facts behind the refurbished Streetcars. A second Sun Metro bus wrap with the Streetcar design will be integrated into Sun Metro’s route system mid-December.

Six PCCs vehicles are undergoing a restoration process in Brookville, Pennsylvania to emulate the original look, and will be equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, modern propulsion, Wi-Fi, and ADA accessibility. The first Streetcar is expected to make its debut in February for testing purposes only. The Streetcar will travel on a 4.8-mile route from South El Paso to Downtown to Glory Road. It will connect the international bridge, retail areas, government buildings, convention and medical centers, the downtown ballpark, UTEP and EPCC campuses, and several historic neighborhoods.

“Our goal is to introduce and generate excitement about the El Paso Streetcar project,” said Sun Metro Director Jay Banasiak. “We hope that the presence of these buses will help Streetcar enthusiasts and novice learners interact with the past and future of this highly-anticipated development.”
