Celebrate Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros
Free books, activities part of annual Children’s Day celebration
EL PASO, Texas – The City of El Paso invites the public to celebrate the annual Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros events happening on Saturday, April 28 at various locations across the city.
The free, citywide celebration will take place during the following times and locations:
- Washington Park, 4201 E. Paisano 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Armijo Library Branch, 620 E. 7th Street 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Sergio Troncoso Library Branch, 9321 Alameda 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Esperanza Moreno Library Branch, 12480 Pebble Hills 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Thousands of books will be given away during the celebration of children, literacy and health that began in 1997 as a partnership between the El Paso Public Library and the Parks and Recreation Department and other community organizations. Aside from free books, there will be live entertainment, food booths, health screenings, arts and crafts and more.
The purpose of the celebration is to encourage children and parents to read more and become more physically active. Studies show that reading is one of the most important activities in which a child can take part and is one of the primary variables in the academic and career success of young people.
Sun Metro will provide free bus rides for children up to 18 years of age all day.
Children are encouraged to bring backpacks or reusable bags to carry books and other goodies. Free parking is available at the El Paso County Coliseum and a free shuttle will take guests to and from the park.
